Candlelight march for peace,justice to the victims of crime

ITANAGAR, Sept 15: It was a silent candlelight march but enough to reveal their pain and fear. No slogans were raised during the procession, but the banners carried by the participants said it all.
Mon Students Union Rajiv Gandhi University in collaboration with All Capital Students Union of Monpa and Itanagar Buddhist Culture Society today took out a silent candle light march to pay tribute to late Dawa Drema who was raped and murdered on 28th August last at Shyro Village in Tawang district and other victims of crimes.
Hundreds of people including students, social workers, businessmen silently joined the march which began around 4.00 pm from Akash Deep complex and culminated at Itanagar Buddhist Monastery ( Gompa) around 6.00 pm. The candle light procession ended with prayers by monks for eternal peace of all victims including late Drema.
Speaking to this reporter, Tsangpa Tashi, one of the active members in organizing the candle light vigil, informed that it is a symbolic protest as well as tribute to late Drema for her eternal peace. Tashi further said all people of the state should join hands to fight for bringing justice to victims of such heinous crime.
“The silent march is a symbolic expression of fear and insecurity said, Diki Chodan, a B Com third year student at Don Bosco College Itanagar. She also revealed that after rape and murder incident at Tawang, she felt insecured in her own home town. ITANAGAR, Sept 15: DDK Itanagar celebrated the 53rd anniversary of Doordarshan at the Kendra premises today.
Speaking on the occasion Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Setong Sena lauded Doordarshan’s role in nation building and said the public broadcaster could play an important role in Arunachal’s social upliftment. He said though India is ahead of many neighbours as per as broadcasting technology is concerned, more needs to be done to reach out to the rural areas.
Stating that directly or indirectly, DDK Itanagar played a big role in moulding local artists, Sena said the public broadcaster could help check urban migration by reaching out and convincing the villagers that future development would take place in rural areas.
Arts and Culture Director Mamta Riba said Doordarshan continues to be one of the biggest institutions of social reformation. She further said that the public broadcaster has been able to bring both cities and villages to each other’s doorsteps.
She pointed out that Doordarshan reaches where no other channel could reach and assured joint endeavours with the department in future.
Director IPR Leki Phuntso expressed happiness that 3 very low power transmitters
(VLPT) of Doordarshan have been upgraded to high power transmitters last year. He appealed for upgradation of the remaining 40 VLPTs in Arunachal Pradesh saying it would beneficial for all.
Head of office, DDK Itanagar R. Venkatesh said Doordarshan has made tremendous progress in the last 53 years. Stating that the broadcaster is second to none in technical availability, he informed that digitilazation of DDK Itanagar is nearing completion. He further informed Doordarshan will continue to serve the people with its motto of providing education, information and entertainment to all.
Head of Regional News Unit, DDK Sonikumar Konjengbam urged the dignitaries to continue their association with DDK. He also suggested that better programmes could be brought out by undertaking joint ventures. She further said that if the concerned authority and the state government could provide Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Cards/ Below the Poverty Line (BPL) Cards against all the inmates, it would immensely help the Home.
She expressed her gratitude to the department of Urban Development and Housing, Itanagar for temporarily providing a government building constructed for “working women hostel, marriage hall, old age and destitute children home” Lekhi village to Achukuru Welfare Society.

However, the Achukuru Welfare Society has come forward to make good use of the building. The government needs to initiate necessary steps and extend their helping hand to the society so that it can expand its activities for the welfare of mentally ill and destitute women and children of the state.
Flash flood leaves trail of devastation at Bomdir
TAWANG, Sept 15: Flash flood at Bomdir near here left a trail of devastation within 15 minutes on September 13. It damaged huge quantities of construction materials of GREF like, bitumen and washed away 2500 cu meter gravel meant for construction of the national highway.
The gushing water triggered by a huge cloud burst in the higher reaches raised the

The area is completely littered with debris of boulders and stones causing complete damage to the parking area, the road to the butchery, the entrance gate and 600 meters of fence. The RCC Bridge, however, remained unaffected from the flash flood.
Brigadier J S Rajpurohit, Commander of Tawang 190 Mtn Bde rushed to the spot and directed relief and rescue operations to prevent further damage. A joint rescue and recovery operation was conducted by the army under the supervision of the Commandant and rescued 25 civilians mainly, GREF labourers. One family that got caught in the flash floods was saved, however their huts were completely washed away. Maximum equipments were recovered using JCB. Five persons trapped in the butchery were rescued by own troops of FSD Bomdir and workshop.
As informed by the Commander 190 Mtn Bde, the Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen along with a team of officials rushed to the spot and personally supervised the situation and directed the morning operations on September 14. Further, he advised the GREF and the populace to relocate their camps to another place for the safety of people and property.
He urged the public to inform the DA before carrying out any activities like construction of building, quarrying, mining, etc so that the DA can access the location for the safety of the populace.
The DC also reassured of continued support from the Army and District Administration for any eventuality or natural disaster.
Clean Arunachal campaign launched
ITANAGAR, Sept 15: Arunachal Pradesh launched ‘Clean Arunachal’ campaign as part of Tourism Ministry’s Clean India Campaign at Ziro valley today.
Launching the campaign, Tourism Minister Pema Khandu appealed all the participants, specially the students community, to actively take part in the campaign and spread the message of clean and pollution free environment for the prosper of tourism in the state. He also informed that the campaign will cover entire Arunachal Pradesh.
Local MLA Padi Richo said that the denizens of Ziro became aware of tourism thanks to the initiative of various tourism activities and expressed the hope that the clean Arunachal Campaign will be effectively carried out.
Parliamentary secretary Passang Dorjee Sona appealed everyone to take equal responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and the administration alone can not be held responsible for it.

Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner Taru Talo said that the campaign will be carried out throughout the district effectively from the next month.

BCIF refuses to accept Govt clarification, to continue democratic movement

RUKSIN, Sept 15: Incessant rainfall for the last couple of days caused extensive damage to crops at Koyu and Kora circles in East Siang district.
Surging water of Dobu and Ngopi rivers inundated paddy fields at Kora and Maane villages washing away about 50 hectares of standing crops at Kora WRC and Maane paddy fields. Strong flood wave also washed away 12 cattle head and 4 Mithuns. The flash flood has completely damaged standing crops of Tami Rimu, Taken Rimu of Kora and Manya Miro of Maane village. It also washed away 12 cattle at Dangmar Riba of Maane, four of which were traced in the downstream area in Assam.

The Upper Ramle Banggo ZPM Yai Dabi, who also is the ZPM chairperson, today visited the affected areas and took stock of the disastrous situation. She has reported the matter to East Siang Deputy Commissioner urging him for a strategic step to mitigate the situation.
The PR leaders of the area have demanded the authority to assess the properties lost and damaged by flood properly and compensate the poor farmers accordingly.
According to a report, the local people believe that the disaster is a result of bamboo flowering in the area during early this year.
Disaster sensitization programme at Khonsa
ITANAGAR, Sept 15: The Disaster Management Cell Tirap district organised 2 days disaster sensitization programme for NCC, scouts and guides along with the teacher in charge of NCC, scouts and guides on Sept 14 and 15 at community hall Khonsa. More than 200 students from Govt Higher secondary school, Govt Town Secondary School, Town Middle School, Bank Colony ME School & Pinewood Middle School Khonsa participated in this two days disaster sensitization programme.
A power point presentation on types of disaster, causes of earthquake and Dos and Don’ts on earthquake was presented by P Duggong, DDMO Khonsa, he also told the students to take advantage of such programmes because it is not only important from disaster point of view but also for academic purpose. V Mitte, Field Officer (Disaster Management) explained the types of fire extinguisher, causes and preventive measures of fire accident. He also briefed the students about the causes of landslide and its precautionary measures. Dr. H K Dutta, SMO District Hospital Khonsa demonstrated the basic of First Aid i.e. wounds, fracture, unconsciousness, snake bite, dog bite etc. and also explained the functions of different system of the body.
On 11th September similar programme was organised for all line departments of Khonsa town by the same team of resource persons. In the said programme the line department was informed about the DDMP (District Disaster Management Plan) and they were requested to submit the details of their man power, inventories and contact numbers to Disaster Management Cell for updating of the DDMP. The DDMO further informed that the DDMP have been uploaded in the district website for better dissemination of the plan which will be updated annually.

Heavy rain disrupts road communication
PASIGHAT, Sept 15: The heavy rainfall for the last few days has disrupted normal life and triggered landslides damaging roads at several places in East Siang District.
Er. Aken Jongkey, EE Pasighat Highway Division, PWD informed that the heavy downpour caused landslides and road breaches between Pasighat and Pangin. A large portion of the approach road and wing wall of Sideng Bridge near Rottung has also been washed away.
However, the department has pressed its men and machineries to restore the damaged portion and it would take two days to complete the restoration work. DIPRO
AAPSU concerned at repeated attack on Press persons
ITANAGAR, Sept 15: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) strongly condemned the attack on staff of the ‘The Arunachal Times’ and termed it another failure on part of law enforcing agencies to curb the growing lawlessness, particularly in the state capital.
The frequent attack on press persons in the state is becoming a great challenge to the greater Arunachal society and in dispensing unbiased news to the common masses of the state. It seems to be an orchestrated attack yet again to subdue the voice of the media in the state, AAPSU said in a release.
The state government needs to rein in the growing instances of attack on fourth pillar of democracy by taking tough decision, the release said and demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the brutal attack.
Meanwhile, the apex students body of the state called upon the state government to upgrade the present helipad located at Naharlagun in the line of Lilabari Airport in Assam, whereby more seater planes can operate which will go a long way in boosting the transportation of the landlocked state till the green field Airport is constructed.
The union also requested all the well wishers of AAPSU not to entertain any form of donation in the name of ensuing AAPSU conference cum election without the approval and prior permission of the union president and conference committee, the release added.

NWS condoles skilled worker’s death
ITANAGAR, Sept 15: Nabam Welfare Society (NWS) condoled the untimely and sudden demise of Nabam Takang, son of Late Nabam Serbang of Langchung village, Sagalee on September 14 at Guwahati.
He is survived by two wives, four sons and one daughter.
He was working as skilled worker in Sagalee PWD Division for the last ten years. NWS prayed to almighty to give strength to the bereaved family members to bear the irreparable loss and also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
